I one, the more than one hundred and
fifty indian ink drawings that make up
the collection of “visions” included in
the book “Sulle ali della bora, nel ruggi-
to del leone. Da Trieste a Cattaro sulla
rotta di Venezia”: with the passing of
days the white sheet magically filled
with a network of seemingly shapeless
signs - while I waited for the final result
- but already perfectly impressed in his
mind that held the sharp advancing
nib, almost moved by its own life. Line
after line, architectures and landscapes,
stormy skies and calm seas, shady pine
forests and sunny squares are delinea-
ted… Above all, I was lucky enough to
see them born in the eyes and passion
of the artist - my father - a man in love
with Beauty in all its manifestations,
and therefore ineluctably in love with
the lands that extend beyond the east-
ern shore of the Adriatic: Pula and Arbe,
Zadar and Korčula, Vrsar and Cres, Hvar
and Kotor ... are the islands beaten by
Bora, are the contrasts of the sea on red
or parched land, and are the cities still
crossed by the ancient roar of the Lion
of San Marco, carved by centuries on
towers, palaces and cathedrals. Since
I was a child, I have always seen my fa-
ther drawing and painting, but in this
collection the quality leap takes place:
the pleasure has become a civil commit-
ment, has turned into a vigorous invita-
tion to start all of us with him for an ideal
