of Portugal is the “Portuguese sardine”,
skinless and without thorns, in olive
oil and with pieces of edible gold,
canned in a package that respects
the profound nobility of a handmade
product. From fish to dessert in the
city is a moment: located in the Belém
district of Lisbon, the Pastéis de Belém
is the oldest pastry shop in the city, as
well as the best. The Pastéis de Nata,
Monastero dos Jeronimos or traditional Portuguese patties,
are prepared following the original
recipe, which of course is top secret. It
is one of the most popular excellences
of Lusitanian patisserie, as well as
one of the symbols of Lisbon, like the
famous Tower of Belèm. Lisbon is a
city of continuous climbs but moving
between restaurants, pastry shops and
monuments is not difficult at all. The
municipal administration is aiming for
the spread, throughout the capital’s
territory, of a sustainable and effective
transport network, limiting the use of
the car and giving priority to bicycles
and public transport.
