The Castelporziano Presidential
Estateextends for 6059 hectares,
inclusive of 3,1 km of beach, and is
located just south Ostia (25 km far
from the centre of Rome). This Estate is
an unicum for its richness not only of
important artistic and archaeological
elements, but also for its wonderful
flora and fauna; in this ecosystem,
in which humans and nature are
perfectly integrated, there have been
recorded approximately 1000 different
plants and more than 3000 species of
animals, equal to more than the 5%
of the entire Italian fauna. If we count
also the invertebrates, there would be

Inside the Estate there is a bird-ringing
station for the non-continuous
monitoring of the migratory birds;
there are also areas for sustainable
farming, connected to the research,
and zones in which are bred, with
traditional practices, indigenous
