Salman, in addition to tourism and, of
course, also to economic development,
focuses much on art and especially on
contemporary art. Coming out of the
preview of the exhibition “The Red
Palace”, a solo show by Saudi artist
Sultan Bin Fahad that took place in
Riyadh a few months ago, I had the

art but of an entire territory. The artist
has created installations and sculptu-
res connecting objects and situations
that have determined the history of
this territory by expertly placing them

Sultan is for Saudi Arabia what Andy
Warhol was for the United States,
Marcel Duchamp for France, Pablo
Picasso for Spain: an initiator. But
there is not only him. In the country
there is a flourishing of initiatives de-
dicated to art. Mohamad Hafez, owner
of the ATHR Gallery, certainly plays a
